Migration from WooCommerce to Shopify for Sneppies

Client Introduction

Sneppies is a specialist swimming retailer serving everyone from recreational swimmers to professional athletes. Alongside their physical store in Abcoude, they sell through marketplaces like Bol.com and Decathlon, while their own webshop - running on WooCommerce - remained a core commercial channel.

The Challenge

As the business grew, the WooCommerce webshop started to lag behind. The product catalog expanded, but managing it became slow and frustrating: bulk edits took too long, translations were time-consuming, and performance and maintenance issues added friction to daily operations. Nothing was technically broken, but scaling the store got harder with every new product and every new market. On top of that, January is peak season for swimming - Sneppies wanted the new store live before the new year, leaving no room for delays, downtime, or lost SEO visibility.

The Approach

We migrated Sneppies from WooCommerce to Shopify, a managed platform built for scale that delivers strong performance out of the box and far better tooling for bulk editing, reducing maintenance overhead and giving the team more control without added complexity. SEO was treated as launch-critical: we executed a structured migration, carefully mapping URLs, preserving metadata and setting up redirects so existing rankings carried over rather than resetting. We also tackled one of the most complex parts of the project - sizing, which varies by country and product type - by building a flexible system on Shopify metafields and metafield translations, so the same product size can display as "32" in the UK, "4" in Germany and "S" in the Netherlands, keeping the backend clean while the front end stays clear and localised.

Results & Impact

The new Shopify store launched before the end of the year, just in time for peak season. Sneppies now has a faster, more stable webshop that's easier to manage, with localisation built into the foundation and a platform ready to scale internationally without creating new operational bottlenecks.

Introduction

Sneppies is a specialist swimming retailer serving everyone from casual lane swimmers to professional athletes. With a growing catalog and multiple sales channels, their WooCommerce store was becoming a bottleneck. We migrated Sneppies to Shopify before peak season, built a scalable product management setup, and made the store localisation-ready with smart sizing logic per country.

Migrated from WooCommerce to Shopify before peak season

Sneppies runs a physical swimming store in Abcoude and sells through marketplaces like Bol.com and Decathlon, but their webshop remains a core channel. Over time, the old setup started to slow them down: managing a large product range took ages, translating content took ages, and performance and maintenance became recurring problems. With January being a hot season in swimming, the goal was clear: go live before the new year.
